CARLANTINO (FG) — On Friday, July 31, at 9 p.m., the women of Carlantino walked through the streets of the historic center. They did so wearing tailored garments inspired by different historical eras, which they had made themselves under the coordination of stylist Elvira Catignano, as part of a workshop for the Punti Cardinali project organized by Malvina Paolozza, director of the training institution “IN.FORMAZIONE.IT”. The event was titled “Fili del tempo, le Donne e la Storia sfilano a Carlantino” (“Threads of Time: Women and History Walk the Runway in Carlantino”) and was an integral part of “Riflessi di Carlantino, trame d’acqua e di terra,” a cultural review organized by the Municipality of Carlantino in collaboration with the professional training institution “IN.FORMAZIONE.IT”, the social promotion association “Per il Meglio della Puglia”, the historic Foggia bookstore “Ubik”, the “Fondazione dei Monti Uniti di Foggia”, the local “Pro-Loco”, and the Archaeological Museum of Carlantino. The garments in the show were true works of high craftsmanship.
They had been created through the creative recycling of fabrics. Each piece told the story of an era, starting from the testimonies of antiquity housed in the MAC, the Archaeological Museum of Carlantino. Through the clothes, then, a genuine journey through time unfolded, retracing the “myth” of the goddesses, the great Egyptian and Roman empires, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, up to the costumes of the early-1900s Carlantino tradition shaped by peasant culture.
On social media, Daniela Cafano, a Carlantino city councilor with responsibility for Tourism and Culture, had issued a message to all the women of Carlantino and neighboring towns: “The show will feature women of every age, size and height; we are not looking for professional models, but people who want to take part for fun and share the inclusive value of the event,” Cafano had explained. “This event enhances women’s creativity, their ability to interpret change throughout history, and promotes sustainable fashion and the recycling of fabrics.”
For Mayor Graziano Coscia, the event held on July 31 “saw women shine in the light of Carlantino’s stars. It was an evening of smiles and participation, through an event that brought together craftsmanship, art, culture, tradition and identity in the name of women.”
