In this exhibition, Isana Shinomiya presents a multimedia meditation on memory, light, and resilience. The project is part of the ADF Art Gallery Project Vol.37, Tokyo, Japan, and centers on a solo exhibition that weaves photography and film to convey emotion beyond spoken language. Shinomiya, a photographer from Yokohama, explores the theme of girlhood through sharp, incomplete figures, and in 2025 directed her first film work, centering on the idea of “the scars of the heart.” The exhibition’s core concept is to cherish scars rather than merely bear them, echoing the experiences of deafness and non-verbal communication. The installation comprises a roughly fifty-minute film, a 140-page photobook, and informative panels that interweave these elements, creating a space where light and shadow carry memory and meaning.

The venue for this work is GARDE Gallery in Omotesando, Tokyo, with the exhibition running from February 7 to February 21, 2026. Visitors can engage with the installation during weekdays from 13:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays and public holidays from 11:00 to 20:00, with an opening reception on February 6 from 18:30 to 21:00. The show is closed on Sundays. The piece is organized by the NPO Aoyama Design Forum as part of the ADF Art Gallery Project Vol.37. Additional information is available on the project site: https://www.art-adf.jp/?sl=en. The overarching aim is to invite audiences to experience communication through light, shadow, and visual storytelling, offering a gentle invitation for those who may feel hesitant to step into the world.
Things That Will One Day Be Scorched and Shine invites viewers to consider how wounds can be transformed into light, and how resilience can illuminate the path to connection for those who struggle to engage with the world.
