Tremezzina, Lake Como — Arte Solidale’s annual spring piano concert returns to the majestic Villa Carlotta, this season offering an evening wholly devoted to two titans of classical music: Fryderyk Chopin and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the latter honored on the 270th anniversary of his birth. True to the spirit of Arte Solidale, the event is not merely a celebration of great music but also a charitable initiative: admission is by free donation, with all proceeds supporting projects for children and minors in need run by the Social Cooperative “Azalea” of Tremezzina.

The concert marks the festival debut of pianist and harpsichordist Luigi Trivisano, who will take on the monumental challenge of Chopin’s Twelve Études, Op. 10. The cycle spans the full emotional spectrum of the composer’s genius — from the aching lyricism of the Tristesse (No. 3) to the thunderous defiance of the Revolutionary Étude (No. 12), also known as The Fall of Warsaw. It is a journey of both virtuosic fire and profound introspection.

Following Arte Solidale’s cherished tradition, the evening opens with a young emerging talent. Massimiliano Frati will pay homage to Mozart with the Sonata in A minor, K. 310 — a work of dramatic intensity that the composer wrote in Paris following his mother’s death.

The two halves of the program will be bridged by Danilo Mascetti, Arte Solidale’s Artistic Director. Mascetti will perform Chopin’s Variations on “Là ci darem la mano,” Op. 2, a sparkling early work that takes its theme from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni. The piece is itself a historical handshake between the two composers — Mozart’s elegant melody transformed through Chopin’s increasingly daring variations, culminating in a brilliant Alla Polacca finale.

The concert will unfold in the elegant halls of Villa Carlotta, the neoclassical gem overlooking Lake Como. Before the performance, guests will have the opportunity to wander the villa’s celebrated botanical gardens, which in spring offer a spectacular display of azaleas, rhododendrons, and ancient trees.
