Founded in 2019 in the heart of Turin, A PICK GALLERY has steadily established itself as a vital presence in the Italian contemporary art scene. Spread across a roughly 300-square-metre exhibition space, the gallery works with both emerging talents and internationally recognised figures, nurturing an ongoing dialogue between experimentation and established practices. Its programme is designed to host ambitious projects, large-scale installations and site-specific works — productions that question and renew contemporary visual languages.
The gallery’s reach, however, extends well beyond its own walls. A PICK GALLERY is a member of TAG – Torino Art Galleries (joining in 2022, and its board of directors since 2023), participates in international art fairs from ArteFiera in Bologna to Zona Maco in Mexico City, and has earned a string of prizes including the Collectors Chain Prize, the Combat Prize and the MZ Costruzioni Prize. Through its public and “urban art” programmes such as Gràphos and Megamix, it also carries artistic practices into the cityscape itself, blurring the line between gallery space and public realm.
Now, as September approaches, the gallery marks the opening of a new exhibition season with two simultaneous solo presentations — both opening on 17 September.
The first is a solo exhibition by Letizia Scarpello (Pescara, Italy, 1989). Across painting, sculpture and installation, Scarpello’s practice treats matter as a dual site — at once a locus of resistance and of transformation. Her works invite a slow, tactile reading of materials as they are pushed, shaped and re-formed, probing the tension between what endures and what gives way to change.
The second presentation is a solo exhibition by José Victor De Castro (Parauapebas, Brazil, 2000). Through a new body of work, the artist turns his attention to family life and the domestic sphere, centring on Sunday as a day of celebration. For De Castro, Sunday is a threshold where everyday routines can open up to moments of the unexpected and the extraordinary — a day when the ordinary makes room for something more.
Together, the two exhibitions set the tone for a season defined by contrast and complement: Scarpello’s material investigations and De Castro’s intimate, domestic narratives. Both artists, in their own registers, hold space for transformation — whether in the substance of matter itself or in the rhythms of daily life.
