On Friday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m., the park surrounding the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima (MAC Lima) will host a free open-air cinema concert, featuring the silent film classic Paris Asleep (Paris qui dort, 1924) by director René Clair, accompanied by live musical performance from the Peruvian ensemble Armonissimo. Admission is free until capacity is reached.
This performance is part of the programming for the 14th French Film Festival, running from April 30 to May 9 across more than 20 venues in Lima and various regions of Peru, presenting over 35 French films. The festival has become one of the most important events in Peru’s cultural calendar.
The festival is organized by the Embassy of France in Peru, the Ministry of Culture of Peru, and the Cultural Center of PUCP, with support from a broad network of cultural partners nationwide, including MAC Lima, which serves as a venue for two open-air screenings.
On Tuesday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m., the “Short, Short, Shorts” section will be screened, paying tribute to the short film as a privileged space for experimentation, formal freedom, and the discovery of new talent. Selected shorts include: Cuando el cielo vuelva a ser azul — by Omar Lucas, Lola y el piano ruidoso — by Augusto Zanovello, No soy — by Valentine Zhang.
During the May 8 cinema concert, the APRECI Awards will also be presented by the Peruvian Association of Cinematographic Press (APRECI) for the competitive section “French Cinema in All Its Facets.” The jury, composed of Leonardo Laura Idme, Estefany Barrientos, and Mauricio Jarufe Caballero, will bestow the APRECI Award for Best Film, the Special Jury Prize, and the APRECI Recognition for New Work.
The cinema concert promises to be a unique experience open to all audiences who wish to enjoy French cinema under the stars. To complete the evening, the first 50 attendees will receive complimentary popcorn and coffee. The public is encouraged to arrive early, bring a jacket or blanket for the park, and prepare for a distinctive night where French cinema, live music, and public space come together.
