Giuliano Vangi, an international renowned sculptor, has left a deep mark on the history of contemporary art, but also on the city of Cantù, where he taught from 1963 to 1969 at the then State Institute of Art. The exhibition does not aim to be a mere tribute, but to tell the pedagogical and artistic legacy that Vangi transmitted to his students. On display: wooden and plaster teaching works, archive documents, photographs, drawings, sculptural maquettes, and large-scale works, collected from Studio Copernico and contemporaneous with his years teaching in Cantù. Vangi managed to apply an innovative and profound methodology, aligned with the aesthetic trends of contemporaneity, sowing a human and cultural heritage that the exhibition wishes to bring to light and share with the public.
The exhibition “Vangi and Cantù’s School” is part of the XIII edition of Cantù Città del Mobile – Festival del Legno, an event that since 2013 has told the tradition of know-how in the territory. Within this context, the show assumes a symbolic and identitary value: not only a tribute to the great sculptor and to his teaching, but also a living testimony of the link between art, school, and community.
The works of Vangi dialogue with the spirit of the Festival, which each year valorizes design, craftsmanship, and the search for form, in a continuous interweaving of memory and contemporaneity. A unique Festival, as the theme of edition 2025: “Pezzi Unici” (Unique Pieces). A tribute to artisanal knowledge, to the expressive power of matter, and to the singularity of creative paths—traits that we find again in the maestro’s works on display, authentic crossroads of technique, thought, and vision.
