Rome, Italy — A bold new cultural initiative is set to transform the city’s urban landscape: VENUS, a collaborative art diffusion project conceived by PM23 and generously supported by the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation. The project brings together art, fashion, and social engagement to forge meaningful connections, nurture care, and invite residents and visitors to experience Rome as a shared, participatory space.
At the heart of VENUS is Joana Vasconcelos, the acclaimed Portuguese artist known for her monumental, vividly colored works that engage with architecture and culture. Vasconcelos reinterprets Valentino’s creative heritage, translating couture into a collective experience. Her site-specific installations and artworks anchor the project, inviting the public to engage with fashion as a living, participatory art form.
VENUS is conceived as an immersive journey that invites broad participation. Rather than a single gallery encounter, the project distributes installations and artworks across Rome, transforming public spaces into conversation spaces. The guiding principle—“beauty that creates beauty”—echoes the Foundation’s longstanding commitment to social impact, suggesting that aesthetic beauty can catalyze care, connections, and renewed urban energy.
The inaugural installation, I’ll Be Your Mirror, marks a landmark moment for VENUS. Unveiled in Piazza Mignanelli, the launch site anchors PM23 as a cultural hub and acts as a beacon for subsequent expressions of Vasconcelos’s vision. The piece invites viewers to reflect on identity, culture, and couture, while inviting public interaction and dialogue.
This initiative exemplifies a broader movement where fashion houses, foundations, and contemporary artists collaborate to reimagine public spaces. By translating couture into communal experiences, VENUS seeks to regenerate urban environments, foster intercultural exchange, and demonstrate how art can become a catalyst for social care—defining a new paradigm for city-wide cultural programming.
The Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation supports VENUS as part of its mission to unite art, fashion, and social impact. PM23 serves as a cultural platform in Rome, providing an ideal venue for immersive, participatory experiences that broaden access to contemporary art and dialogue.
