Italian artist Giusy Lauriola is set to unveil her latest solo exhibition, titled “Svanire,” at La Vaccheria, an exhibition space in Rome, from May 10 to June 6, 2025. Curated by Carlo Ercoli, this collection not only showcases her artistic journey but invites viewers to engage in a profound dialogue with nature and the emotions that lie within her vibrant artworks.
The exhibition features approximately thirty pieces that encompass both large and small formats. Utilizing materials such as acrylic, enamel, and resin, Lauriola’s artwork exemplifies her signature style. The interplay of colors and contrasts creates a dance of light and shadow, revealing floral elements that spring forth from the canvases. This visual narrative is a celebration of the harmony between humanity and nature, a theme Lauriola emphasizes in her work.
Ercoli notes, “Whether in video, photography, or on canvas, Lauriola’s artistic philosophy has consistently aimed to portray the world as a better place than it appears at first glance.” Her art seeks to capture those suspended emotions that often remain hidden in the folds of daily life—both the overt and nuanced aspects of human existence.
A distinctive feature of the exhibition is its decision to forego explanatory texts. Lauriola believes that art should provoke spontaneous reactions and a sense of wonder, allowing each piece to speak for itself. As she puts it, “I wish to leave the work free to communicate with the observer, enabling them to experience an authentic and personal journey without imposed interpretations.”
Visitors will receive a flyer at the entrance, encouraging them to write their impressions on the back. Lauriola invites attendees to engage actively with her art: “Leave your mark. Art speaks. Sometimes it whispers, and other times it shouts. Here you will find no explanations; the artworks want to speak directly with you.”
Giusy Lauriola was born in Rome, where she continues to live and work. Her artistic career has evolved from addressing social issues such as war and urban life to focusing on intimate themes, particularly feminine identity, emotions, and the natural world. Her works embody a rich emotional narrative, juxtaposing instinctive gesture with formal control to transform mere lines into deep visual storytelling.
Lauriola has exhibited internationally, including prestigious venues such as the International Photo Festival in Lodz (2006), the Artemisia Art Gallery in Monaco, and the Domus Art Gallery in Athens. Her art has been recognized through various awards, including the Arbiter Fata Verde Prize in 2021 and inclusion in the Atlante dell’Arte Contemporanea De Agostini, a definitive compendium of contemporary Italian artists.
The “Svanire” exhibition at La Vaccheria not only advances Lauriola’s artistic exploration but also presents a unique opportunity for spectators to engage in a dialogue that transcends conventional barriers. By encouraging personal interpretations, Lauriola affirms her belief in the transformative power of art. This exhibition promises to be a significant event in the contemporary art scene, inviting audiences to reflect on their connections with nature and the complexities of human emotion.
