Xi’an, China – The Garuzzo Foundation is set to unveil a remarkable exhibition featuring the works of renowned Italian photographer Nino Migliori at the Xi’an Art Museum from March 7 to April 20, 2025. This marks the first time Migliori’s artwork will be showcased in China, celebrating his significant contributions to the world of photography over a career spanning nearly eight decades.

Nino Migliori, who has dedicated 77 years to the art of photography, is a pivotal figure in Italian photography and holds a respected position on the international stage. The exhibition, titled “Nino Migliori: A History of Italian Photography,” is curated by Alessandro Carrer and Clemente Miccichè and will be part of an international celebration commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Xi’an Art Museum, which attracts nearly one million visitors annually.

Migliori’s philosophy on photography emphasizes its narrative power, stating, “Photography is a story, a narration made by a person who has feelings, ideas, idiosyncrasies, and passions that necessarily reflect in the situations and reality they choose to represent and interpret.” His work is characterized by a deep exploration of the expressive possibilities of photography, merging technical innovation with theoretical reflection.

The exhibition will feature 194 works that span Migliori’s extensive career, showcasing his evolution from realistic series to experimental pieces and explorations connected to European Informal art. The collaboration between the Garuzzo Foundation, which has been promoting contemporary Italian art globally since 2005, and the Nino Migliori Foundation, dedicated to preserving the artist’s legacy, has made this exhibition possible. This partnership has been strengthened by long-standing relationships with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Embassy in China, the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing, and various Chinese institutions.

The Xi’an Art Museum, known for its vast contemporary art space, will provide a fitting backdrop for this retrospective, which highlights Migliori’s unique ability to blend photography with artistic expression. His works are not just images; they are a profound commentary on humanity, encapsulating a dynamic and compelling narrative that has shaped Western photographic culture.

The Garuzzo Foundation, a non-profit cultural entity based in Turin, aims to enhance the understanding and appreciation of contemporary Italian art through national and international exhibitions, artist exchanges, residencies, and awards. With over 1,000 works exhibited in 19 countries and 500 artists represented, the foundation continues to champion Italian art on a global scale.

The exhibition opens on March 7, 2025, at 3 PM, and will later travel to Beijing, further extending Migliori’s reach and influence in the realm of contemporary art.
