An evening blending art, philosophy, and theater to reflect on one of today’s most urgent topics: peace. The program at Le Rosine’s art and culture hub in Turin invites audiences to imagine a “preventive peace”—a shift from managing conflicts to shaping the conditions that prevent them from arising. Peace, in this view, is not merely the absence of war but a daily practice rooted in responsibility, cooperation, and care for social bonds.
Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of Italy’s leading contemporary artists and a central figure of Arte Povera, will headline the 6 PM session. He will engage with critic and curator Fortunato D’Amico in a conversation exploring the concept of preventive peace. In Pistoletto’s frame, our built environments—cities, economic systems, cultural models—are human-made habitats. The artist argues that awareness among artists, designers, and creators can be decisive in transforming a “war project” into a project of peace, guiding society’s artifices toward fairer and more responsible relations.
Additionally, the evening will feature the official announcement of Pistoletto’s second Nobel Peace Prize candidacy, proposed by the Sereno Regis Study Center, a historic Turin-based institution dedicated to nonviolence research.
At 9 PM, the program shifts to the stage with “Il Contr’Uno Remix,” a theatrical reading written and performed by Fabrizio Odetto. The piece reworks Étienne de La Boétie’s Discourse on Voluntary Servitude, a essay written in his early twenties. The text — still strikingly relevant — probes tyranny and the tendency of peoples to accept forms of domination that curtail freedom. Through the performative word, Odetto centers the idea that freedom and free will are non-negotiable assets whose loss risks erasing humanity itself. The performance invites renewed critical thought and a reaffirmation of human beings as “free and equal,” reconnecting with nature and community—ties revered by many ancient civilizations as sacred.
Entrance to the evening is by donation and supports Cerchi di Mamme – L’Arte della Nascita e della Rinascita, one of the three free social initiatives promoted by the Istituto delle Rosine Foundation, in collaboration with maya.vision, fostering a birth in beauty.
