Marco Casalvieri, born in 1993 in Rome, is an emerging artist whose work has been gaining recognition in the contemporary art scene. With a diverse portfolio that spans various exhibitions and competitions, Casalvieri’s artistic journey reflects a commitment to exploring complex themes through innovative mediums.
In his own words, Casalvieri shares, “I started painting because I needed to express myself, and I couldn’t do it with words. The silence of images has always seemed more eloquent to me than the weight of words I ended up using—more effective and clear. Coming from a poor, marginalized area of Rome, I needed a way to dream and hope for a different destiny, away from certain dynamics and environments, and painting gave me that.”
His artistic career began in 2011 with his involvement in SLASHTHREE, an online platform that showcases contemporary art. Since then, he has participated in numerous exhibitions, both in Italy and internationally. Some of his notable exhibitions include: 2015: Participated in the WIRE Festival at Eutropia, Campo Boario in Rome, Italy. 2016: Featured in multiple exhibitions, including “Paradigm Shift,” “Quote Unquote,” “World Exhibition III,” “War,” and “Discovery.” 2018: Awarded the Premio Nazionale “Basilio Cascella” and showcased his work in the “Discordia Art Collective” and “Fieri d’Arte” in Portomaggiore, Italy. 2019: Exhibited at ONArt Gallery in Florence with shows titled “Io sono Natura” and “Ritrarre l’Anima.” He also participated in the Enegan Art Contest at the Museo degli Innocenti in Florence.
Reflecting on his choice of medium, Casalvieri explains, “I wanted to work with images, something older than language, and I chose oil painting simply because it was the best medium to convey certain feelings. For me, it is a language too, just visual, but it speaks and explains itself. In my future projects, I simply want to say more to more people.”
In recent years, Casalvieri has continued to expand his artistic reach. In 2022, he held a solo exhibition titled “Through the Exit Door” in Rome, which was well-received by critics and audiences alike. His work was also featured in the “Wish You Were Here” exhibition at the Dalek Art Gallery in Antwerp in 2023.
Looking back, Casalvieri had an exciting lineup of exhibitions scheduled for 2024: “Seeing is Believing” at Galleria Il Laboratorio in Trastevere, Rome; “Diffusissima Artàporter – Rome Future Week” at MaMiMo in Rome; and “Samset Art Festival” at Samset Garden in Rome. Internationally, he participated in the Hampstead Art Society in London and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at Mall Galleries in London.
Citing the impact of art on his life, he states, “Art—whether painting, literature, music, or cinema—has always been close to me and has taught me so much. I have songs, films, and books that hold a place in my heart even closer than many people. It has kept me company in moments of solitude and lifted me in times of depression. In my small way, I want to add my piece to that larger picture and give to someone else, somewhere, what I have received from many artists. It’s my way of contributing and saying thank you because sometimes in life, one can feel trapped, but then, amidst the thorns, small, poorly beaten paths can be glimpsed, which, if followed, can lead to unimaginable places.”
Marco Casalvieri’s artistic journey is marked by a series of significant achievements and a growing presence in the art world. With his upcoming exhibitions and continued exploration of contemporary themes, he is poised to make a lasting impact on the art community. As he prepares for these events, art enthusiasts and collectors alike are eager to see how his work evolves and what new narratives he will bring to life.
