
Milan, Italy – The Fondazione dell’Ordine degli Architetti di Milano is thrilled to announce the inaugural edition of FotogramMi, the Festival of Architecture Photography in Milan, taking place from May 20 to 24, 2025. This exciting festival promises a variety of activities, including talks, guided tours, and workshops that aim to connect professionals and photography enthusiasts with the narrative of modern Milanese architecture from the 20th century.
The festival will feature a key exhibition titled Milano Moderna Oggi, showcasing Milanese architecture from the 1900s. This exhibition will run from May 20 to July 18, 2025, at the Ordine degli Architetti’s headquarters on Via Solferino. It will include a carefully curated selection of photographs by seven prominent photographers: Gabriele Basilico, Giovanni Hänninen, Marco Introini, Delfino Sisto Legnani, Allegra Martin, Filippo Romano, and Giovanna Silva. Their diverse works will highlight the unique relationship between these architectural structures and the urban landscape of Milan.
Marialisa Santi, President of the Fondazione, expresses enthusiasm for the festival, stating, “We are very happy to launch the first edition of FotogramMi. Understanding, promoting, and valuing architectural photography is crucial for comprehending the reality in which we live. It documents transformations and creates new narratives of the city.”
The festival will kick off on May 20 at 6 PM with the opening of the exhibition, complemented by talks from keynote speakers including Giovanna Calvenzi and several exhibiting photographers. These discussions will delve into themes and goals surrounding architectural photography and its relevance today.
Throughout the festival, attendees can participate in a series of activities designed for audiences of all expertise levels:
- May 21 and 22: Masterclasses in architectural photography will be conducted by Giovanna Calvenzi and Marco Introini, focusing on theoretical frameworks and contemporary techniques.
- Photography Tours: Guided photography itineraries, led by four of the exhibiting photographers, allow participants to capture both historical and modern architectures in Milan, culminating in a photo editing session.
- Round Table Discussions: A thematic roundtable on May 21 at 7 PM will provide a platform for discussions on the current state of architectural photography, with key figures from various related fields participating.
- Guided Visits: Scheduled tours will explore significant photographic locations in Milan, including the Triennale Milano and the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea, where attendees can gain insight into the archival materials and the city’s architectural legacy.
The festival will also host two open workshops on May 24:
- “The City in Your Pocket” – Focused on smartphone photography techniques, this workshop aims to help participants utilize mobile devices to capture urban environments creatively.
- “Kids’ Perspective” – Designed for children and families, this interactive workshop utilizes instant photography to explore and transform perceptions of the city through children’s eyes.
FotogramMi is supported by Strategia Fotografia 2024 and the Italian Ministry of Culture, with the backing of the City of Milan and the Metropolitan City of Milan. Cultural partners include the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea and Triennale Milano. This initiative aims to foster a meaningful connection between architecture and photography, celebrating Milan’s rich cultural tapestry.
