Von Buren Contemporary from Rome, Italy, is thrilled to announce the opening of Captured Moments, a solo exhibition by the talented Spanish artist Evita Andújar. The vernissage will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with the exhibition continuing until May 6, 2025, at their gallery located at Via Giulia 13, Rome.

Andújar’s latest work delves into the phenomenon of the selfie—a self-portrait typically taken with a mobile phone or webcam. In an age where these images can often be dismissed as trivial, Andújar elevates them to a realm of fine art. The exhibition captures women in moments of reflection, often portrayed in intimate domestic settings. These scenes, infused with a subtle sense of unease, invite viewers to explore the complex feelings that accompany modern self-identity.

Using photographs sourced from online platforms as her foundation, Andújar reinterprets these images into vibrant oil paintings. This transformation allows her to infuse each piece with a depth of meaning and emotion, drawing from both her personal experiences and the collective narrative of women in today’s society.

Captured Moments marks a significant turning point in Andújar’s artistic journey—this is her first full collection utilizing oil on canvas rather than acrylic. This change enables her to fully exploit the rich colors and intricate blending capabilities that oil paints offer. The resulting canvases not only celebrate femininity but also serve as profound reflections on existential themes and emotional depth.

Born in Spain in 1974, Evita Andújar has cultivated her artistic talents through extensive studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Seville and further development in Rome, where she currently resides. Andújar has received numerous prestigious awards and has exhibited her work internationally, spanning countries such as England, France, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and South Korea. Notably, a major retrospective of her work opened in her hometown of Écija in March 2020, alongside a solo exhibition at the House of Rigoletto museum in Mantua in 2019. Her works are included in prominent collections, such as Cosenza’s Diocesan Museum, the MADXI contemporary art museum in Latina, and the Luciano Benetton Foundation.

Andújar’s bold and dynamic style captivates audiences with its radiant energy, light, and color. Her distinct brushwork conveys movement and depth, inviting viewers to engage with the figures captured within her canvases. At first glance, her works may appear almost abstract, dominated by large strokes and vibrant hues. However, upon closer inspection, observers find themselves drawn into a dialogue with the emotional core of the scene.

Captured Moments promises to be a significant exhibition that not only highlights Evita Andújar’s artistic evolution but also reflects on the contemporary themes of identity and self-perception through the lens of femininity. Join us at Von Buren Contemporary to experience this compelling collection and witness how Andújar transforms the mundane into the extraordinary.
