Hugo Territoriale is an artist whose creative evolution is deeply intertwined with his experiences across various landscapes, cultures, and encounters. Born in Salta, Argentina, in 1988, Territoriale’s artistic journey began at an early age as he immersed himself in the teachings of prominent artists, shaping his distinctive style that seeks to simplify the representation of reality.
Following his studies at the prestigious National University of Córdoba, Territoriale ventured to Europe, where he settled in the captivating Côte d’Azur. Here, he honed his craft as a portraitist and caricaturist, marking a significant turning point in his career, which included his first exhibition in Grasse, France, in 2015. His style evolved from figurative representation to a more abstract interpretation, balancing his Latin American heritage with European influences.
Driven by a thirst for inspiration, he moved to Guadeloupe, where the island’s rich nature ignited a new facet in his art. Fascinated by the local environment, he began exploring the potential of banana fibers to create natural paper, infusing his work with the textures and history of the region.
Territoriale’s recent series, “Espace et Textures,” exhibits his transformation from figurative to abstract art. Utilizing found objects within his compositions, he creates pieces that evoke emotions while inviting viewers to interpret the layers of texture and visual intrigue. This exploration even extends to portraits, which reflect the vibrant colors characteristic of Latin American art and the principles of Cubism.
His latest exhibition, “Les Visages de l’Abstraction” (The Faces of Abstraction), aims to present this journey in Salta starting February 22, 2024. Curated by Martin Palomino Salomon, this collection signifies Territoriale’s efforts to merge personal and cultural narratives through his artistic lens.
With a vision to foster connections among artists globally, Territoriale harbors aspirations of establishing a communal space in Italy dedicated to the arts. His ambition is not only to exhibit the works of renowned and emerging artists but also to facilitate dialogues that inspire future generations to pursue their artistic passions with the same fervor that he embodies.
As Territoriale’s artwork continues to evolve, he remains committed to enriching the artistic landscape through his unique perspective, melding abstract expressionism with the cultural legacies of his journeys, and leaving an indelible mark on the tapestry of contemporary art.
